From the New York Public Library’s Flickr stream, a collection of images from Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions (1843–53) by Anna Atkins. One of the first female photographers, Atkins’s the three-volume set was the first commercially published book illustrated with photographs. Though created over 160 years ago, these graphically bold images still seem fresh and modern today.
